Guru Lakshmi Iyer
Founder & Executive Director
Lakshmi Iyer brings together the Pandanallur and Vazhavoor Banis alongside her Kathak training in the Jaipur Gharana — a rare breadth of classical foundation that shapes everything Margam does.
She began building institutions in 2006, in Seattle, where she founded Abhinay Fine Arts and Abhinay School of Dance and Music in. There she created Kshetram, an original production uniting Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Mohiniyattam dancers. In 2010, she launched Seattle's Natya Festival — a first-of-its-kind competitive platform.
Upon moving to St. Louis, she established KalaArangam, a nonprofit, and Margam Dance Company.
Megha Sanjay
Artistic Director & Principal Dancer
Megha Sanjay has trained in Bharatanatyam for over 20 years under Guru Lakshmi Iyer. She performs, choreographs, and teaches — and has brought the form into institutional settings including COCA, where she has served as a supplemental instructor for pre-professional students, and Webster University, where she has taught as an adjunct professor of dance.
Her work extends beyond the studio into workshops, community outreach, and movement programming for non-dance audiences.
